Galgagyörk I. Andesite Mine

The mine is located in the northern part of the Galgagyörk settlement among the hills of the Cserhát Mountains. Galgagyörk is located 43 km from Budapest and 17 km from the M3 highway.

High-quality andesite rock was mined in the settlement as early as the 1800s. At the end of the 1800s, the Hungarian section of the Aszód-Balassagyarmat-Losonc railway line was built from crushed stone from the area.

The mine opened after several years of planning and construction work.
